BIO:
Jamal “The Suit” Patterson’s story is one of intensity, intellect, and relentless dedication — a true reflection of the Renzo Gracie lineage. Born in New York and raised in New Jersey, Patterson forged his path on the mats of the legendary Renzo Gracie Academy, where he developed into one of the team’s most respected black belts. Known for his smooth grappling and calculated pressure, Jamal carried those lessons into professional MMA, where he compiled a 6-3 record with five submission victories.
A proud graduate of Colgate University, Jamal was not only a scholar but also a two-sport athlete in football and track, before sharpening his wrestling foundation at the national powerhouse Blair Academy. His competitive drive and deep technical understanding later led him to success on some of the sport’s biggest stages — including the International Fight League and Bellator — culminating in his crowning achievement: winning the UWC Light Heavyweight Championship via a first-round guillotine choke over Antwain Britt.
Beyond his own fighting career, Patterson has coached and mentored numerous UFC fighters, guiding many from their first amateur bouts to the professional ranks. Yet, his true passion extends far beyond the cage — Jamal finds his greatest fulfillment working with kids and families, teaching the same principles of discipline, humility, and perseverance that were instilled in him by his father, who raised an extraordinary family grounded in excellence.
Today, as the founder and head instructor of All Star MMA, Jamal continues to build champions both on and off the mats — inspiring a new generation to chase greatness through hard work, respect, and belief in themselves.
